An explanation of the legislation
This legislation prohibits the sale of plumbing fixtures with a wetted surface area containing more than a weighted average of .25% lead. The law virtually eliminates the lead content of pipes, pipe fittings or plumbing fittings and fixtures intended to convey or dispense water for drinking or cooking. Effective January 4, 2014, pursuant to federal legislation, these same low lead standards will apply throughout the United States.
